Worthy of a post

January 21, 2009

At the very least. After decades of mediocrity, it seems that America has chosen the right and the best man for the job. I feel like, overnight, I became proud to be an American again. And I don’t think I’m alone. His words, his demeanor, his very presence just screams sound leadership.

As Bush slinked away like the wounded badger he is, Obama grabbed the reins of the huge, crazed but sickly bull that is America. Can he stay in the saddle and control this beast? Only time will tell. But hope abounds around the globe that he can and will.

They all say it, but this is truly the beginning of a new era. I believe Obama and his associates are up to the task. I hope the American people are, too.

Crime in the Streets – 2007 Edition

September 18, 2008

Well, It’s that time of the year again. The FBI has just come out with the crime stats for 2007. I always like to take a look at these numbers and compare them to that little place that I live called Singapore. For this, I have selected those US states that have roughly the same population, though less, than Singapore. I have also included Los Angeles, whose population is also about the same. Lets see what’s new!

Murder Rape Robbery Assault Population
Minnesota 116 1,873 4,770 8,244 3,781,574
Los Angeles 395 1004 13,481 12,926 3,870,487
Wisconsin 183 1,223 5,474 9,416 4,053,659
Colorado 153 1,998 3,453 11,302 4,187,300
Missouri 385 1,714 7,165 20,418 4,306,270
Tennessee 397 2,174 11,022 32,787 4,485,971
Singapore 18 72 1,025 2,800 4,588,009

It looks like killin’ is still real popular in LA though they’re not raping so much, which I guess is good news. Those folks in Missouri and Tennessee love to beat other people up and dang, lots of women seem to be gettin’ poked against their will in Colorado of all places. Minnesota, a chilly but friendly place, seems pretty safe, unless having nearly 2,000 women raped makes you a wee bit queasy.

Singapore, with a larger population than any of them, had 18 murders but hey, they only solved 17 of them and I bet those 72 women who got raped don’t think it’s so safe here. It’s safer now ofcourse, because those murderers and rapists here won’t be doing it again. Ever. They’re……gone.

The rapists and murderers in the US, on the other hand, will most likely be out practicing their trade again one day. Sure hope they don’t find you.

After waiting over 50 years…

And it’s about goddamn time.

Quote of the Day

June 17, 2008

“Even our dogs and cats have learned – elections matter.”

Al Gore, referring to tainted pet food from China, during his Obama endorsement speech. It may be premature to say this, but I think Obama’s campaign is becoming absolutely tigerish. 🙂

Vet News

May 3, 2008

One thing we can all do to support our troops and veterans is to stay knowledgeable on the issues that affect them the most. There is a lot going on with vets that rarely if ever make it into the MSM and the result is that the vets suffer through lack of exposure of the often terrible way they are treated and ridiculous obstacles they are expected to overcome.

This is largely due to a president who seems to do everything he can to avoid spending the money needed to solve these problems. Bush has denied expanded education benefits because he says “it would encourage military men and women to end their military careers early to enroll in school”.

Is that a load of lying crap or what! Almost without exception, if you ask vets why they decided to join the military, they will include the available education benefits. To limit or reduce those benefits will not give you more troops. It will make fewer volunteer in the first place. A wise President, who was also a veteran of multiple wars, once said:

“The willingness with which our young people are likely to serve in any war, no matter how justified, shall be directly proportional as to how they preceive the veterans of earlier wars were Treated and Appreciated by their nation.”

Anyway, I urge you to subscribe to the email notices sent out daily by Veterans for Common Sense, who stay up on all legal and congressional matters affecting troops and veterans. Its free, will keep you informed and may even provide some solid fodder for future posts. Below are a few recent articles, most of which you have never seen before, I’m sure.

18 year PFC Monica Brown becomes only the second female since WWII to be awarded the Silver Star in combat. Then, due to the sexist, archaic military rules, she is reassigned.

One in three military women will be raped by military men and some will be murdered to cover it up. I’m sure the brass will blame it on the women themselves.

In the last 3 months, at just the VA Hospital in Spokane,  seven returned vets have committed suicide. Jeez! Is this a VA hospital or Dachau!

5,000 vets called the VA suicide prevention hotline last month alone. But most get no treatment and others die waiting for the inadequate, understaffed VA to catch up.

Just like the brown nosing Bushbabies they are, the VA is still refusing to cooperate with Congress’ investigation into veteran suicide.

Congress is overwhelmed with Veteran related bills, but most don’t really do a thing for veterans. In fact some do more harm than good.

PTSD and war wounded vets find college an especially challenging process. But some schools go out of their way to make our vets comfortable. Be nice if the VA and our traitorous president, who has denied increased education benefits, would do the same.

Closing arguments today in the lawsuit alleging grossly inadequate care by the VA. The government still trying to cover its ass. No surprise there.

Pressure forces VA to change its policy on helping vets register to vote. It’s a first step but not nearly enough. And to do it right would require very little if any resources.

April 22, 2008

I keep having this wonderful vision of a cold snowy day in January ’09 – Obama standing on the White House porch as George Bush leaves for the last time. Obama gives him a swift kick in the pants and says, “Get your sorry ass out of the people’s house” as George stumbles down the steps into the waiting arms of the FBI.

God, it’s better than a good wet dream and, at my age, that’s saying something.
