American Politics – Corrupt by definition

You know, it really is unbelievable what has happened to that country. And a great number thinks its ok. The political system in the US is beyond hope. You are doomed to super rich oil companies running the country and lobbyists for them running Washington. If you think anyone up there really gives a shit about you, you’re living in dreamland.

I like Singapore because the Prime Minister comes out each year and says what is going to happen the next year. And then, IT DOES. Granted, the people don’t elect him, they only elect the parliament. Then the parliament elects him. None of that matters because the results are so enormously superior to the system in the US that I can’t imagine anyone living/working here and ever wanting to go back to that ignorant, gullible and totally corrupt system.  I certainly don’t ever want to.

You can have your zillion dollar campaigns full of lies and deceipt. You can have all of your talking heads spouting their nightly drivel, all of which is meaningless. While all of that “public” commentary is going on, the real power pushers are doing what they have always done and always will do. They are directing the policy of the US through their influence and cash.

For Americans to sit there and think that their vote matters, that anything is going to change, that some wonderful regression back to a time of respect and world influence is just one election away, is all dreams.

You’re going down the tubes. The rest of the world knows it and is just sitting back watching it happen. Come to think of it, most of you are just sitting on your butts watching it happen too.

Pessimistic me takes a more optimistic view of the situation.

I’d love to have the hope that there are enough people sane enough to reject this bunch of stupid criminals and perverts, but looking at the way people are swooning over this petty crook Palin makes me think there’s not enough here to save.

She’s a novelty and the puppet masters are spinning it well. The new will wear off and folks will do what they will do.

Sounds like you think PAP is one of the best government in the world heh?

Guess you probably don’t give a hoot to what people like Dr Chee Soon Juan thinks, says and does. You think he’s just a clown, don’t you? 🙂

  5. Mockingbird Says:

Singaporeans lament about the lack of political freedom in Singapore. We lament about how quick the goverment is when it comes to silencing its critics and members of the opposition parties.

it’s hard to voice out boldly one’s opposition beliefs because the government is always quick to sue the pants off anyone who dares to oppose it. Quick to invoke the internal security act to lock up any dissidents.

Guess you don’t mind a government that stays in power for decades but gets things done heh?

I have no idea who he is, Michael. And I know it’s hard for you to compare because, if I’m not wrong, you have only lived under and been exposed to one government. But what I look at is the results. You live in a country, albeit a small one, that is reputed the world over to be the cleanest, safest and one of the most efficient in the world. Additionally, Singapore holds the number one spot for international business because of the ease of doing business and the lack of corruption. Add to that the fact that you operate on a surpus, have extremely high tech and well managed public transportation and services, and have a very high per capita income and I would say that speaks pretty highly of the PAP, yes.

So i guess you don’t mind the lack of political freedom here in Singapore because the governing party has been doing a good job all these decades?

I think freedom is an over rated concept. Some freedoms shouldn’t exist at all (the freedom to carry weapons?) and the public is not mature enough to handle some others. Political “freedom” is a great idea if you define it as a people being safely able to vote for their leaders, any leaders, and have that vote count. Can you tell me where it exists?

If you lived in a militaristic state or under a dictatorship, then political freedom is very important. But you don’t. All things are relative. There is no pure, free governments in the world, just shades of good, bad, corrupt or not corrupt.

Pure political freedom carries enormous responsibilities and requires an extremely mature and well informed public. I think both are rare.
