Hillary tells a whopper

hillary_clinton_1101.jpgFar be it from me to put down a democrat but I feel that what’s good for the goose is good for the gander. Hillary decided to try to capitalize on her visit to one of the world’s many hot spots by telling a blatant lie in an attempt to appear brave and tough. The evidence of the lie was filmed for all the world to see. How dumb can you get?

Then today she tried to minimize the damage by saying she “misspoke” and her campaign staff scrambled to cover for her. You’ve all heard the distasteful details.

Frankly, I find her behavior disgusting and inexcusable. We have brave, tough troops under fire every day. For her to lie to try to be like one of them is just as perverse as Rudy and his lie about time spent at ground zero.

I don’t think she can or will put this episode behind her. If she became the candidate, McCain’s people would pound her with it daily. She needs to get out now and throw all of her support behind Obama. To do anything else, to act as if she did nothing seriously wrong will just humiliate her and the party further.

  1. It’s a bit late for Clintons (both) as the damage they have inflicted on the Democrats may not be easily forgotten. But then I am a Brit in UK.

This election seems to throw up the worst in politics or perhaps as you hint the worse is yet to come.

LOL! It’s not just reprehensible, it’s stupid. Did she really think that people would believe that Sinbad was going to put himself into harm’s way just to tell a few jokes? Or Sheryl Crow to sing a few songs?

“What a tangled web we weave when we first practice to deceive.”

Okay. Scratch the “first practice.” Don’t think that applies to a politician – particularly her.

Her repeated excuse that this was just a minor “mistake” of words in the “millions of words I say each day” is making matters worse. It was not a mistake – it was a planned lie to solicit voter support. Now she is showing her true colors by not coming clean about it.

Brian, she’s been showing those same colors all through the campaign. Strangely, the least nasty of any of the candidates so far has been McCain. WTF?!?!

That’s cause he is having a senior moment!

Jonolan, I think you and Win are both right. McCain is running the cleanest campaign. He sticks to the issues when he can remember what they are and what his current position is. And frankly, I don’t think he has the energy to participate in a negative campaign at his age.
I still can’t get over a video I saw where he is asked a question by a reporter on an airplane. He responds that, he is sure he has taken a position on that issue but isn’t sure what that position is. He then asks an aide to go look it up and tell him.

Hehe. Just remember Reagan – we all believed “I can’t recall…” during the Iran-contra fiasco. McCain may be sharper than he lets on to reporters. Playing “old” may be an effective way of diffusing unwanted questions from reporters. 😉
