Lakota Declare Independence from the US

means1.jpgThis story is huge. If you aren’t yet following it, you should be.

Political activist Russell Means, a founder of the American Indian Movement, says he and other members of Lakota tribes have renounced treaties and are withdrawing from the United States.

Means said anyone could live in the Lakota Nation, tax free, as long as they renounced their U.S. citizenship. The nation would issue drivers licenses and passports, but each community would be independent. “It will be the epitome of individual liberty, with community control,” Means said.

I only recently watched “Into the West”, the Spielberg docudrama about the plight of the Lakota. Any of us who were raised and educated in the US are well aware of the genocide inflicted upon the Native Americans by the whites on their march west.

There have been protests before ie, Wounded Knee and Alcatraz but nothing that has the potential that this does. I support their cause and wish them success.

They have a hell of a chunk of land, that’s for sure. It is going to be interesting to see how it all plays out. While the concept is exciting, and certainly justified, it is also rife with problems.

This is a sign of the times. I wish all the states would do the same. I just hope the gov’t stays out of it. Somoene told me this story disappeared. We want continuing updates on this story. No one has heard anything since last year.
This IS what America is all about. They are just working the system set up for them by the US GOVT……..and we all know…..IF YOU’RE NOT WORKIN’ THE SYSTEM, THEN IT’S WORKIN’ YOU!

I’ll be following this story and others concerning the independent movement of the Native Americans. Thanks for the comment, Sophia and for stopping by.
