Evel Knievel

evel-knievel-edit.jpgEvel Knievel is dead after a long illness at age 69.

Considered crazy by some, arrogant by others and admired by many, Evel was in a class of his own in a sport that he defined. There were no other famous stunt performers. Only Evel.

Listening to him talk before or after one of his many dangerous feats, I thought he was an extremely confident man but also one with integrity and focus. I never heard him swear or belittle anyone else.

I always got the impression that his sons loved and respected him. Son Rob broke some of his dad’s records and successfully jumped the Snake River, a feat that had eluded Evel 25 years earlier.

There aren’t too many who can be called “one of a kind”, but Evel surely was. He didn’t just talk the talk, he walked the walk. Thanks for the thrills, Evel.
