Congress Votes Against Longer Rest for Troops

Congress Defies the People – Votes to F**k the Troops Again

And you know, if they had their way, there would be no rest or return home breaks at all. Put ’em over there – leave them there for the duration – when its over, bring the living ones home. That is what Bush and his repugnant supporters would love to do. And they certainly don’t have to worry about it affecting their families because not one of their kids is serving in Iraq.

[WSJ] The Senate, reflecting continued Republican loyalty to President Bush’s Iraq strategy, blocked a bipartisan proposal promising U.S. troops more time at home between tours overseas.

Proponents fell four votes short of the 60 needed to limit debate, and the 56-44 roll call effectively kills what was widely seen as the Democratic leadership’s best shot of making some dent in the president’s policy.

It’s not like Webb’s proposal is asking for too much. In fact, a proposal that asks only for as much time at home as on the battle field is inadequate. These guys need at least 2 years at home for every year over there. Even at that, the strain on their families and themselves is overwhelming. To demand more, all in the name of this criminal enterprise is evil. For the American people to allow it, to not put a stop to this madness once and for all, is worse.
