Patraeus is “Dead Wrong”

patraeus1.jpgWASHINGTON (AP) – President Bush’s war strategy is failing and the top commander in Iraq, General David Patraeus, is “dead flat wrong” for warning against major changes, the chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee said Sunday.

“The reality is that, although there has been some mild progress on the security front, there is, in fact, no real security in Baghdad or Anbar province, where I was dealing with the most serious problem, sectarian violence,” said Senator Joseph Biden, who recently returned from Iraq.

Petraeus and Crocker will say the buildup of 30,000 troops, which bring the current U.S. total to nearly 170,000, is working better than any previous effort to quell the insurgency and restore stability.

Well, since none of our previous efforts have done anything but increase the insurgency and instability, that’s not saying much.

My note: 1967-General William Westmoreland is called before congress to justify a buildup of troops in Vietnam. He said the military had reached a point where “the end begins to come into view”. There would be “light at the end of the tunnel”, but “mopping up the enemy” might take two more years.

We got out 8 years later after admitting we didn’t have a mop.

Biden contended that Bush’s main strategy was to buy time and extend the troop presence in Iraq long enough to push the burden onto the next president.

Now isn’t that a great reason to keep our troops over there, dying and being blown to bits? So Bush doesn’t have to be “burdened” with a withdrawal? God, he is such a cowardly pissant.

Stressing that a political solution was the key, Biden said, “I will insist on a firm beginning to withdraw the troops and I will insist on a target date to get American combat forces out.”

That’s what nearly 80% of America have wanted all along, Joe. But lets cut the rhetoric and go for some action this time, okay? I for one am not holding my breath waiting for you or any other legislators to represent us-the people-which is your job, and get us out of Iraq.
